Rapping is also known as MCing or emceeing. In the 1990s rap was split between West Coast and East Coast. The West Coast rap was also known as Gangsta Rap. During the 1990s there was a West Coast/East Coast Rivalry with Death Row Records and Bad Boys Records. During the rivalry both Tupac Shakur from Death Row Records and Christopher Wallace from Bad Boys Records were shot and killed.(Ayazi-hashjin, 1999) Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in June 16, 1971 at East Harlem, Manhattan, New York City.His professional entertainment career began in the early 1990s when he showed his rapping skills in a vocal turn in Digital Underground’s “Same Song” from the soundtrack to the film “Nothing”. In late 1993 he formed the group Thug Life with his friends which included his stepbrother Mopreme Shakur. The group released their first and only record album Thug Life: Volume 1 on September 26, 1994. When he turned seventeen, he dropped out of high school and got involved in crime. In 1989 he was arrested on weapons charges and sentence to five years probation. Then in 19990 he was arrested for a violation of his probation. Then a year later he was arrested in North Carolina for dealing crack cocaine. He spent nine months in prison until he made bail. When Wallace was a teenager he was rapping to entertain people on the streets. When he got out of prison he made a demo tape under the name Biggie Smalls. Sean “Puffy” Combs got a hold of his demo; Sean arranged a meeting with Wallace. Wallace was signed to Uptown Records immediately. Soon after He signed his recording contract, Combs was fired from Uptown and started a new label and Wallace followed and signed to the new label Bad Boys Records. But Combs made him quit after Combs found out that he was selling drugs to support his new born daughter. By the end of 1995 Wallace was the top selling male solo artist and rapper on the U.S. pop and R&B charts. In 1995 he became involved in a feud between East and West Coast hip hop with Tupac Shakur, his former associate. In April 1995 Shakur accused Wallace and Sean Combs of having known that he was going to be robbed which resulted in Shakur being shot and losing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. Wallace denied this accusation even though he was in the same studio at the time. When Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by and died six days later, Wallace was accused of having been involved in Shakur’s murder.
